This article presents a study on the contributions of a generating problem as a starting point for teaching quadratic functions. The research problem was defined as follows: How can the Problem-Solving Methodology (PSM) contribute to the learning of quadratic functions through the application of a generating problem? The research followed a qualitative and interventionist approach, characterized as participatory research, in which a generating problem was applied to identify and discuss the contributions of PSM to mathematics teaching. The participants were first-year High School students from a public state school in Brejo da Madre de Deus, located in the Agreste region of Pernambuco. The findings indicated that this methodology fostered meaningful learning and reframed existing gaps, thus promoting a deeper and more critical understanding of the subject.
