TEACHING, LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT IN MATHEMATICS THROUGH PROBLEM SOLVING: AN EXPERIENCE WITH TEACHERS WHO TEACH MATHEMATICS

This study aimed to investigate the contribution of the Teaching-Learning-Assessment Methodology of Mathematics through Problem Solving to work on proportionality with teachers and future teachers working in the early years of schooling. The methodological approach followed the stages of a lesson study in which the Teaching-Learning-Assessment Methodology of Mathematics through Problem Solving from GTERP was used to construct the concepts of ratio and proportion. The concepts of ratio and proportion were discussed with the teachers, and then a lesson was planned and implemented in a 5th-grade class to teach the idea of proportion. The results indicated that the GTERP methodology contributed favorably to the teachers’ training because, in addition to expanding their knowledge of the concepts of ratio and proportion, it allowed them to experience the use of the methodology in the classroom with 5th-grade students and verify its effectiveness in the learning process.
