This article explores the implementation and effects of using rubrics as an innovative tool in the assessment of Numerical Analysis seminars at a Brazilian public university. The study investigates students’ perceptions of rubric use, including its clarity, utility, and impact on seminar performance. Data generation was conducted through a questionnaire and teacher observations. The research is descriptive and exploratory, utilizing a mixed-methods approach. The results reveal that rubrics provide a transparent structure, making the process fairer and more consistent. The data demonstrate a positive acceptance by students, as they also guide continuous learning development. In conclusion, this article contributes to the discourse on innovative assessment practices by presenting evidence of the positive impact of rubric use in seminar assessment and encouraging student engagement and self-assessment.
