This study is financially supported by the Research Support Foundation of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, characterized as qualitative research, and aims to analyze how an investigative task related to renting and mortgage can contribute to the Financial Education teaching and learning processes. The members of the research are Mathematics teachers, from the Final Years of Elementary and High School (public network) of a city located in the State of Rio Grande do Sul and the methodology used was mathematical investigation. The data produced was analyzed by applying discursive textual analysis and grouped into two categories: resolution strategies and conjectures, and teachers’ perceptions regarding the investigative task. It was concluded that renting instead of purchasing a property may be a good alternative. Several factors can influence the choice, including the country’s financial situation, consumer preferences, and property appreciation over time. The topic has led to a lot of several discussions, which contributed to the development of critical thinking and the continuing education of Mathematics teachers who are seeking knowledge to feel more prepared to teach Financial Education in schools.
