MATHEMATICAL PROBLEM POSING BY STUDENTS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER: A STUDY IN THE CONTEXT OF SPECIALIZED EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT

This article analyzes the potential of problem posing by students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as a strategy to stimulate creative thinking and build mathematical knowledge in Specialized Educational Support. The proposal emerged from theoretical discussions in the course Conceptions and Trends in Mathematics Education, part of the Graduate Program in Mathematics Education at the State University of Paraná and was implemented in a public state school in Santa Catarina. Three students with ASD participated, enrolled from the 9th grade of Elementary School to the 2nd year of High School. Data collection involved records of the problems created and solved by the students, as well as reports given to the researcher-teacher. The results indicate that this approach, when conducted in a sensitive and intentional manner, supports the mathematical expression of each student while respecting their cognitive styles. Moreover, it promotes authorship and participation in learning, contributing to inclusion and valuing diversity in Mathematics education.
