Neoliberalism and public educational policies in Brazil

Neoliberalism can be defined as a political, economic and social practice, since it is adopted by societies, aiming to expand individual freedoms of private property to a level that is out of sight. Therefore, educational policies are also affected and directly influenced by this entire global context, which also presents itself locally. This article is the result of research from the master’s degree in teacher training at UEPB and aims to reflect on neoliberal ideals and their direct influences on the Brazilian educational system, causing new educational policies to emerge and be adapted to their purposes. Therefore, the changes that have been occurring over the years within schools in Brazil are notorious, which was presented with greater force through law 13.415/2017, whith significant changes in basic education, more specifically in secondary education.
