Abstract

This article aims to understand the contemporary phenomenon of the proliferation of fake news, not only as a distortion of the truth or a desire to deceive. Instead, it aims to situate the phenomenon as part of a social dynamic in which it assumes a certain productive function. That is, in a context of social acceleration accompanied by a set of new processes of subjectivation, disinformation fulfills a certain function, both in maintaining a weakened psychic structure and in concealing any reality as otherness, that is, resistant to the narcissistic mental constructs of the subjects.
