Student engagement policies in hugher education: a study at the Federal University of Rio Grande Do Sul-UFRGS

The presente study aims to relate public policies within the scope of Higher Eduction to student egagement and retention. The justification for this study is to highlight the importance of public policies in the cosntruction os students’ university careers and their impact on academic engagement. This is a qualitative research, of a bibliographic and documentar nature, which covers the main characteristics of public policies aimed at the permanence of students in Higher Education, considering as a basis the reports of the Evaluation Committee of the Universidade Federal do Rio grande do Sul, between the years 2018 and 2020. The analysis of the reports reveals the the student policies developed by researched institucion provide subsidies for acces and permanence of studentsat university. The scientific research, institucional evaluation, the effectiveness of investiments, and excellence works as an instrument to favor advances in the acquisition of knowledge, the process student learning and academic engagement.
