Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the importance of phrónesis in the constitution of the ethical subject from the dialectic between the self (ipseidade) and the other (alterity) in the in the search for good life present in this Oneself as Another of Paul Ricoeur. The self, reflective pronoun in third person, distances itself from the cartesian cogito and leads it to the hermeneutics of the subject capable - of narrating, speaking, acting and imputing. For the understanding of oneself as another, ricoeurian ethics arises from the complementarity of two philosophical traditions: the ethics of the aristotélica inheritance and the morality of the kantian inheritance. In this sense, the relevance of phrónesis emerges from the need for reflexive self to deliberate well in order to aim at good life and avoid the tragic action. Thus, the small ethics of Paul Ricoeur is defined as the good life for and with others in the just institutions, subdivided between three components: the esteem of oneself within the scope of ipseity, the solicitude within the scope of alterity and, finally, the equality in the just institutions. In view of the good life between oneself and the other in the just institutions, phrónesis as practical wisdom is rehabilitated by the french author as moral judgment in situation before the dilemmas that generate conflicts between universality and particularity. With this, the research unfolds in interpreting how phrónesis perpasses the self, the other and the just institutions leading to an ethical subject in making decisions making for good life in community.
