Abstract

The objective of this work is to raise theoretical assumptions of the concept of competence in order to understand its recurrence in education. To this end, we present how the concept arises and expands constituting itself as an object of debate and very intense study in the educational area. From this, we will reflect on the effects of the public policies of neoliberalism, as a philosophical, political and economic current, in teaching practices. It is not intended to corroborate the position of any author or to assume a position for the adoption of a competency-based training model, but think the emphasis on teaching competencies to understand the productivity of these actions today. The review allowed us to realize that despite all the discussions built in relation to this theme in the educational field, it is still configured as a horizon of many questions.
