Abstract

This article aims to discuss the teaching of Mathematics in the early years of Elementary Education through the use of an interactive book and the Tangram. The study is qualitative in nature and was conducted with a fifth-grade class from a municipal school in Santa Maria, RS. Data were collected from students’ written records and from the researchers’ participant observation, and the data analysis was carried out based on principles of descriptive and explanatory research. From the analysis of this material, the study seeks to highlight how playful and manipulative elements can support the understanding of geometric concepts, stimulate logical reasoning, and promote students’ active participation in the learning process. The results indicate that the use of this material, in addition to sparking students’ interest, helps foster curiosity and motivation, fundamental elements for mathematical learning.
