Applications of aramid fiber in composites: a review of brazilian dissertations and theses

Polymeric materials have been the subject of research and extensive studies due to their diverse properties and varied application possibilities. Aramid fiber is one of these materials, known for its remarkable mechanical properties and impact resistance, it is a high-performance synthetic material, composed of heterocyclic aromatic polymers, with varied applications in different industrial segments. In order to improve these characteristics, matrices can be incorporated to create lightweight and resistant composites, in addition to improving their interaction and improving their mechanical properties. Therefore, within this context, this article aims to verify the main properties and applications when using aramid fiber with other materials. To this end, a bibliographic review was carried out through the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations platform in the period between March and August 2023, using the Boolean search engine. 56 works were identified using the keywords Aramid fiber, Aramid fiber, Kevlar, Ballistic vest and Ballistic vests. The results obtained demonstrated that aramid fibers with appropriate surface treatment are easily applicable in composites, showing a greater prevalence and improved mechanical properties.
